Eagles return to the League with a bang....
After missing a couple of games due to the weather and their excellent run in the Cups the Eagles were away at Swanscombe in their return to the league.
After a bit of a delay in the kick off the boys started brightly on a nice sunny Sunday morning. They passed well and created chance after chance but the ball wouldn't hit the target. The Swanscombe keeper was kept busy, while at the other end Jack was struggling to stay focused on the game having had little to do!
Some more chances fell the Eagles way but the Swanscombe keeper was on form, shots coming in from Oli, Rio and Freddy. Seeing all these chances Chris Ward stepped in and broke through the middle, he looked up and unleashed a thunderous drive which beat the keeper and crashed against the underside of the bar! The whole of the ball appeared to spin down over the whole of the line but unlike the one given against them v Meopham the Ref waved play on! The boys continued to press but the scores remained level. 0-0 at Half Time.
The Eagles continued where they left off in the second half, battering the opposition and having attack after attack. Willem and Lewis kept things tight at the back putting in some great challenges. The tireless Rio was all over the park trying to make things happen along with the powerhouse that is Hayden Robinson. He was there for every throw in, every corner and worked really hard and that effort finally paid off as a long throw from him into the box was nodded in past the keeper! 0-1 Eagles. More shots and chances came and went with Freddy being denied by the keeper on at least three ocassions then up popped the fox in the box Oli Taylor to slot home nicely into the bottom corner. 0-2!!!
A great game from the boys who worked really hard and should have/could have had seven or eight if it were not for the Swanscombe keeper. 3 points in the bag to progress up the league :-)
MOTM: A tough call but Rio Dhami was all over the park and scored a great header to bag the MOTM.
